BRINGING THE RESEARCHERS CLOSER TO THE PUBLIC

European Researchers’ Night 2023

The European Researchers’ Night (ERN) is an initiative promoted by the European Commission since 2005, with the aim of celebrating science and bringing it closer to citizens.

Framed in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, the European Researchers’ Night takes place simultaneously in more than 30 countries and 300 cities throughout Europe.

We look forward to meeting you!

Highlighting the impact of research on our daily lives

European Researchers’ Nights are public events dedicated to bringing researchers closer to the public by showcasing the diversity of research. The aim is to motivate young people to embark on research careers.

AN EVENT DEDICATED TO

‘Science for Everyone - Sustainability and Inclusion’

ERN 2023 | ‘Science for Everyone – Sustainability and Inclusion’ aims to raise awareness about the role of science in achieving sustainability and inclusion goals among school students and different audiences, while identifying key societal concerns about climate change and sustainable growth and linking them to science-oriented solutions and proposals.

Taking their concerns, expectations, and values to identify measures that may help face global changes makes them more likely to be engaged in understanding the relevance of resource preservation and the need to shift towards more sustainable practices, a clean economy, and inclusive social and economic growth.

European Researchers’ Night will take place on September 29, 2023, in Braga. Join us!

HAVE FUN

During the European Researchers’ Night, you have the opportunity to learn and experience science in a unique way. Researchers bring life different scientific experiments to the streets. Visitors pass through live laboratories and experience scientific work and learn about hot topics in depth. Everyone with a passion for science – children, adults, and seniors – is welcome.

Meet our researchers and learn how to love science, because science is part of your life and part of you!

MISSION NERD, Spreading scientific knowledge to the community

Mission NERD fosters Nanotechnology Education and Research Demonstrations (NERD) through a humanised knowledge approach. Is focused on social sustainability, and is proof of social mobility using innovative and inclusive education, empowering citizens to be change-makers in global issues. The mission acronym name, NERD, also recalls the magic of being different in our society. Each person has something unique, good, and meaningful to share. INL scientists will prepare engaging and interactive experiments for the European Researchers' Night.

The magic combination of nanotechnology and performing arts

NANO-CIRCUS

A circus performance co-created by the social project "Equilibrium Social Circus" with an artistic residence at INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. Equilibrium Social Circus is more than just entertainment – it's a movement! With a strong commitment to social change and empowerment, the group’s performances aim to inspire and uplift.

Here, boundaries are blended, and disciplines intertwine, giving birth to ground-breaking circus creations. INL scientists and the Equilibrium Social Circus team experienced the thrill of a stimulating exchange of ideas in a co-creation project. The artistic vision was enriched by scientific insights, and scientific inquiries found expressive forms through art.

Prepare to be astounded by the incredible feats of balance, agility, and grace as our talented troupe of performers from Equilibrium Social Circus and INL combine arts and science.

30 SEPTEMBER 2023 | INL Open Day

On September 30, INL will hold its third open-day event to celebrate science with inspiring activities for all ages. We invite the public to get in touch with science and enter our ‘Nanoworld’, free of charge.

We will explain how nanotechnology works in our research areas and translate this knowledge to all interested, from different backgrounds, educations and ages. We aim to get closer to the community and show the benefits of nanotechnology to everyone who is interested in visiting us.

With these goals, INL will present to the visitors a set of planned activities to demonstrate concepts that are often distant from day-to-day reality.

Join us for scientific activities, exhibitions of the work already produced and developed by the INL team, and visits to the main laboratories of the INL.

Explore science with us! See you in September 2023!
