Connecting Scientists with the Next Generation

Researchers at Schools

From the lab to your school. Science is for everyone.

The European Commission’s flagship initiative “Researchers at Schools” fosters meaningful connections between scientists and students across Europe. As part of this effort, the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) is proud to open the doors of science, research, and nanotechnology to young minds.

At INL, we believe the future of science begins with today’s students. Through lectures, demos, and bilingual outreach, Researchers at Schools connects young learners with the exciting world of nanotechnology—showing them that scientists come from all backgrounds, and every question can lead to discovery.

What We Do

INL researchers regularly visit local schools to host interactive lectures and hands-on workshops. These sessions offer students the opportunity to:

  • Discover what nanotechnology is all about

  • Meet real-life scientists

  • Explore research tools, prototypes, and demonstrations

  • Get inspired by the possibilities of a career in science

Our Programmes

1. Native Schools

In collaboration with Native Scientists, this programme is for INL researchers whose mother tongue is not Portuguese, offering workshops in their native language. It connects scientists and students through a shared cultural and linguistic background, promoting inclusion and science literacy.

2. Cientista Regressa à Escola / Científic@ Regresa a la Escuela

Also with Native Scientists, this programme invites researchers to return to the primary school they attended in Portugal or Spain for a special one-day visit, delivering two engaging science workshops.
